Our adventures mainly take place in South Africa and the Azores, Portugal. In the past we have also undertaken repeated expeditions to Northern Norway, Iceland, Madeira and Indonesia.
Sardine Run East Coast South Africa
Experience the largest fish/sardine migration in the southern hemisphere at the Sardine Run on South Africa's east coast and you may see predators such as dolphins, whales, sharks, fur seals, penguins and seabirds hunt for sardines. As part of our Sardine Run tours, we want to bring you closer to all the beauty of South Africa and will do our best to show you the Expert Tours Big 8 (dolphins, whales, sharks, elephants, buffalo, rhino, lions and leopards).
West Coast Run, South Africa
There are also plenty sardines on the west coast of South Africa and that is why we offer the Atlantic Sardine Run in the South African summer from October to January. We look for predators in the open sea that hunt fish and form them into a fish/krill balls (baitball). Part of this expedition are also several dives where we dive colorful reefs. With a bit of luck we'll find endemic catsharks snaking their way through the reef or fur seals darting through the kelp forests. It is not uncommon to find mola molas warming up on the sea surface during the day and during a lured dive we hope for numerous blue and mako shark appearances.
Sardine Run Expedition Azores, St Maria
The Atlantic Sardine Run around the Portuguese Azores island of Santa Maria has been new on offer since 2022. This expedition is a balanced mix of open sea sardine run days and scuba diving. Our goal on the Sardine Run days is to find baitballs and then snorkel or, if the situation is static, dive into the water. Typical hunters in this area are tuna, mobulas, whale sharks and other sharks, as well as sometimes whales and dolphins. The dives take place at the best dive sites around Santa Maria. Unforgettable moments are guaranteed with the best visibility and temperatures around 22-24 degrees.
