During this time, krill and sardines gather along the coastline, attracting hungry predators such as dolphins, sharks, seabirds, and other marine creatures. Together, we venture into the open ocean to observe these breathtaking hunting scenes and, with a bit of luck, discover a mesmerizing krill ball.

But that’s not all! Our expeditions include several exciting dives at vibrant reefs, where you may encounter endemic catsharks and, with some luck, seven-gill sharks weaving gracefully through the coral, or playful sea lions darting through mystical kelp forests.

A true highlight of these adventures is spotting the magnificent Mola Molas, often seen basking near the surface. Under the right weather conditions, we also increase your chances of a close encounter with the majestic blue and mako sharks.

Sardine Run Expedition Azores, St Maria

The Atlantic Sardine Run around the Portuguese Azores island of Santa Maria. This expedition is a balanced mix of open sea sardine run days and scuba diving. Our goal on the Sardine Run days is to find baitballs and then snorkel or, if the situation is static, dive into the water. Typical hunters in this area are tuna, mobulas, whale sharks and other sharks, as well as sometimes whales and dolphins. The dives take place at the best dive sites around Santa Maria. Unforgettable moments are guaranteed with the best visibility and temperatures around 22-24 degrees.
